Human Told Science Tales

Science communication can be tackled by anyone with a phone. Yet, it is the hardest to make an impact in society, so how do you do it? This challenge is what inspires me to create. What makes it even more fascinating is there isn’t one solution. However, working with people passionate to test the known to find truth are the stories that I love to produce. People and their stories are my solution. So, what’s your story?

Navigating Kanaloa

Kanaloa represents the deep ocean including the currents in Hawaiian culture, which on this dive was a huge factor showing a highly dense community with a strong current our excellent pilots navigated against.

Deep-Sea Underdogs

Snails, sea stars, and sea spiders may not be the most glamorous species in the deep-sea but are just as important to study as the more charismatic species like corals and sponges.

It’s A Trap

After fifteen years of exploration, the deep sea still holds many secrets including these predatory chitons.

Game-Changer

After 27 years, we get to revisit the shipwreck of the battleship USS Yorktown to discover things never seen before. After the two day exploration, we found for the first-time a mural painted specifically for the ship, a car left on the ship, and the first evidence of aircraft on a battleship at a wreck site. None of these discoveries would have been made possible without the precise maneuvering from our pilots down multiple elevator shafts and the research by our partners at NOAA.

Kamohoaliʻi Guides D2

Kamohoaliʻi is the Hawaiian shark god that guided Pelé to the Hawaiian islands. In this case, a catshark appeared to guide us to a field of beautiful crinoids.

Legendary Battleship

USS Nevada, first of it's class of battleships. The only battleship able to get underway during the 7 December 1941 Pearl Harbor Raid, Nevada was the object of intense attacks by Japanese aircraft. Her guns were actively employed during the Normandy Invasion in June 1944 and the Southern France operation in August and September. After two years of inactivity, USS Nevada was sunk by gunfire and torpedos. Follow along our journey to the USS Nevada as we explored the debris field that had never been imaged before!

Connections To Our Past

During World War II, LST-884 participated in the assault and occupation of Iwo Jima in February 1945 and Okinawa Gunto in April 1945. Due to extensive damage resulting from a kamikaze attack, LST-884's was scuttled on May 6th, 1946. LST-884 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Watch as we dive on this historic shipwreck seventy-nine years later.

The Dolphin Dilemma

Imagine, waking up being covered in third-degree burns, that's what it's like for the Burrunan dolphins in Australia. But why is this happening? That's what Dr. Duignan, Director of Pathology at The Marine Mammal Center, Dr. Stephen’s from Murdoch University, and Dr. Robb from the Marine Mammal Foundation had to find out. This film explores this international collaboration that proves for the first time that these lesions being found on cetaceans around the world are only caused by climate change.

Pacific Rewind

CAPSTONE was a multi-year campaign that explored the deep sea habitats of the marine national monuments, never seen before. Take a look at this overview of the campaign created by GFOE video producer Olivia Andrus-Drennan.

American Chemical Society’s Ingenious: The World’s Smallest Water Treatment Plant Comes in a Packet

About 800,000,000 people worldwide – that’s almost one in ten, more than the population of the U.S. – don’t have reliable access to clean water. Using a technology first developed to reuse dirty laundry water, scientists have developed a water treatment plant the size of a teabag. Inside, a potent chemical triple-threat removes microbes, heavy metals, silt and dirt to produce clean, safe water one bucket at a time.

Ingenious is a new web series from the American Chemical Society about how leading-edge chemistry is taking on the world’s most urgent issues to advance everyone’s quality of life and secure our shared future.

Hosted by Alex Dainis, Ingenious spotlights stories from the front lines of chemistry research and development, where passionate innovators are stepping up to confront problems like pollution, overfishing, sustainability, and personal safety.

Rescue Mission: Deadly Entanglement Found Around Elephant Seal Mom's Neck

The Marine Mammal Center's expert responders worked with trained teams from NOAA and Point Reyes National Park on this challenging rescue. This young northern elephant seal mother was found with a plastic package strap wrapped tightly around her neck. The life-threatening entanglement likely made it difficult for her to swim, eat, and even breathe - all while trying to care for her two-week-old pup. Due to the seal's position, trained responders had to simultaneously distract other wild seals, while positioning close enough to the entangled seal to remove the strap. Their teamwork saved this young mother's life!

Diversified:
The Florida Panther Story

Genetic bottlenecking has plagued the Florida panthers since the early 1980s. To counteract this problem the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission created the Florida Panther Project. Their goal was to introduce new genes into the Florida panther's gene pool to diversify the species and save them from extinction.
